Our Coaches
Blake Boren
Head Coach
Coach Blake Boren enters his 16th year in education and coaching at Liberty Hill High School, where he has spent his entire basketball coaching career. After 11 years as a basketball assistant, Coach Boren took over as the head basketball coach and has led the program for the past five seasons.
A graduate of Liberty Hill High School, Coach Boren went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from The University of Texas at Austin. He currently teaches mathematics at Liberty Hill High School.
With 16 years of experience in education and coaching, Coach Boren brings a deep understanding of player development, teamwork, and the importance of building a strong culture within the program. His approach to coaching emphasizes discipline, accountability, work ethic, and developing young men both on and off the basketball court.
Coach Boren is proud to continue serving the Liberty Hill community and looks forward to building on the tradition of Runnin’ Panthers basketball while helping each player reach his full potential.
Paul Alvarez
Junior Varsity Coach
Varsity Assistant Coach
Coach Paul Alvarez brings 15 years of teaching and coaching experience to the Liberty Hill basketball program. His coaching background includes experience at the high school, junior varsity, college, and women's basketball levels.
Coach Alvarez began his coaching career as a head coach at San Juan Diego Catholic High School, where he spent three years. He later served as a basketball assistant at St. Dominic Savio Catholic High School before joining the women's basketball staff at Texas A&M University for two years. His coaching experience also includes four years as a basketball assistant at Anderson High School and two years here as a basketball assistant at Liberty Hill High School.
A graduate of San Juan Diego Catholic High School, Coach Alvarez earned a Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology from St. Edward's University and a Master's degree in Sport Management from Texas A&M University. He currently teaches science.
Coach Alvarez is passionate about developing players, building confidence, and helping young athletes understand the value of preparation, teamwork, and commitment. His extensive coaching experience gives him a unique perspective on player development and the game of basketball.
"Pops" Barry Boren
Freshman Coach
Varsity Assistant Coach
Coach Barry Boren brings more than four decades of coaching experience to the Liberty Hill basketball program. His coaching career has included stops at the middle school, junior high, and high school levels, as well as more than two decades leading the Liberty Hill basketball program.
A graduate of Haltom High School, Coach Boren earned a Bachelor of Arts in English from Texas Wesleyan University. During his career, he coached at Keller Middle School, Watauga Middle School, Richland Junior High, and numerous high school programs, including Nolan Catholic, Kaufman, Terrell, Little Cypress-Mauriceville, and Keller Fossil Ridge.
Coach Boren spent 20 years as the head basketball coach at Liberty Hill High School before retiring. He is now back in coaching, serving the last two years as a basketball assistant. He also spent his career teaching English and physical education and is now retired from teaching.
With decades of experience, Coach Boren provides an invaluable combination of basketball knowledge, leadership, and mentorship. His commitment to Liberty Hill basketball and the development of young athletes has made a lasting impact on the program and the community.
Patrick Bailey
Freshman Coach
Varsity Assistant Coach
Coach Patrick Bailey brings 18 years of teaching and coaching experience to the Liberty Hill basketball program. His coaching background includes extensive experience in football, along with basketball experience at Liberty Hill High School.
A graduate of Westwood High School, Coach Bailey earned a Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science from Texas Tech University and a Master's degree in Coaching and Athletic Administration from Concordia University Irvine. He currently teaches English.
Coach Bailey's coaching career has included stops at Smithson Valley, Calallen, McCallum, Reagan, Vista Ridge, Smithville, McNeil, and Westwood High Schools, where he served primarily as a football assistant. He has also spent two years as a basketball and football assistant at Liberty Hill High School.
Coach Bailey brings a strong background in athletic development, teamwork, discipline, and player preparation to the freshman basketball program. He is passionate about helping young athletes develop the skills, confidence, and character necessary to succeed both on the court and in the classroom.
